CALL FOR ARTISTS: DECEMBER 22, 2023 – FEBRUARY 2, 2024

SPACED is a site-specific public art exhibition in Toronto, featuring a series of large-format pieces created by a diverse range of artists placed throughout various locations in the city. This exhibition aims to spark dialogue within urban spaces, questioning the role of art in shaping public environments. It seeks to generate new meanings, visions, and interactions with its audience. Spaced revolves around the notion that art has the power to rejuvenate the mind, allowing it to engage with a variety of concepts and materials. It is this openness that activates these contemporary creations.

Luminato Festival Toronto and Banded Purple invite artists to submit pre-existing artworks to be exhibited as part of SPACED, a temporary public art exhibition set to grace various Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) stations as part of Luminato in June 2024.

Embracing diverse disciplines including photography, mural art, painting, and new media, this opportunity aims to spotlight Canada’s vibrant BIPOC artistic community by fostering new interpretations, visions, and engagements with the public.

SPACED prompts artists to envision possible and even speculative futures across technology, cultural shifts, the environment, nature, and beyond. We encourage artists to explore and imagine utopian, dystopian, or visionary concepts related to the future through their chosen artistic mediums. We encourage bold expressions and remind artists to consider that the audience for this show will be commuters from all walks of life.

Artist fees will be based on CARFAC minimums for a Category III group show with between 16-29 artists, with an exhibition license of up to 3 months.
